5 cose da mangiare a Matera

The most common risk when you travel is to find yourself sitting in those restaurants with red checkered tablecloths and Italian flags that offer the so-called “tourist menu”, which is a fixed price menu with neither traditional nor genuine dishes, and as you know, food is a serious matter in Italy!

cosa mangiare a matera

Casa Netural cares about the taste buds of its guests and for this reason we offer you a list of the 5 best things to eat in Matera … mouth-watering!

  • Cavatelli pasta with toasted breadcrumbs and deep-fried dried Peperoni Cruschi

Whether you eat it in a fancy restaurant with a view of the Sassi or admiring the   Belvedere sitting on some steps, home-made pasta is always a pleasure. This time, the seasoning is totally special: we bet you (barely) have never heard of Peperoni Cruschi before! After drying them in the sun and removing all the seeds, you would just thrown them straight into the pan in boiling oil for a few seconds.

  • Ice cream with a view

What could be better than enjoying a good artisan ice cream while looking at a breathtaking view? In Matera this is possible! From Piazzetta Pascoli, at the end of Via Ridola, you directly overlook the Murgia, seeing the Cathedral and the Rock Churches. You only have to choose your favorite favour!

  • Bread tour in local bakeries

The tradition of the typical bread of Matera is very old and the recipe requires a lot of attention and few ingredients like different flours and sourdough. Basically in Matera you can find a bakery in every corner and each of them offers its own specialties: not only will you find the Cornetto (the classic form of Matera Bread), but also focaccia with various toppings, favory pies, and also pastries.

  • Roasted chicken and sausages

Do you know KFC, the American fast food restaurant chain? Well, forget about it! Most of butchers in Matera sell takeaway roasted chicken and veal sausages skewers. What makes this experience special is to observe from the butcher’s windows these large revolving ovens in which these local delicacies are roasted. The scent makes the waiting even more exciting … and hunger grows!

  • Panzerotto

What is the panzerotto? It’s a halfmoon shaped fried pasta, filled with tomato sauce and mozzarella, which gives happiness from the first bite. Finding a panzerotto in Matera is not difficult at all, but there are some places specialized in the preparation of this typically Mediterranean delicacy. Attention to the palate! The Panzerotto is lava 🙂
